Libretto/ carta di circolazione
Your libretto/carta di circolazione shows: car details; previous owners; MOT (revisioni) stickers showing pass or fail. If lost or stolen you must make a police report within 48 hours. A duplicate will be sent to your home address for a fee which you pay the postman upon delivery. Call the Ministry of Transport free on 800 232323 for information or visit the Italian Police website.
Spot checks by police
In Italy there are many spot checks not only to check for vehicle roadworthiness but also to track down criminals, illegal immigrants etc.. It is important you have your libretto di circolazione, car tax receipts and driving licence with you at all times as you will be asked to produce these.

Violations and penalty points on your Italian driving Licence
With
a new Italian Driving licence you have 20 points, if you commit a driving offence points will be subtracted. Here is alist of when penalty points can be removed from your licence (165kb pdf). If your violations bring you to 0 points on your licence
you must retake the full driving test (this included the theory and the practical!)
